Bert Isaac

Bert Isaac was a founder member of the Welsh Group and of the Watercolour Society of Wales and spent most of his working life at Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, an Honarary Artist-member of the Roayal Cabrian Academy and a Senior Academician of the RWA. He won a Gold Medal at the National Eisteddfod of Wales and was awarded the MBE in 1999. H in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire. His works are in public and private collections including the National Museum of Wales, the Contemparay Art Society of Wales, Urawa Gallery Japan and the Universities of Oxford and London. He is particularly influenced by abandoned slate quarries and the rivers and waterways of Wales.

Bert Isaac died aged 83 in 2006. He was one of Wales' most respected artist and leading teacher of art education. His wonderful pictures depicting desolate quarries, in particular the Dorothea Quarry, Nantlle; are testament to his skill as a water colourist and printmaker. His final Exhibition was at Llantarnam Grange, just months before he died.
